Eustace Straker
Minister of Music

Eustace Benjamin Straker, born in Barbados, West Indies, began his studies of piano and organ at an early age under the tutelage of his father, a school teacher and church organist/choirmaster.  He later studied with Mr. Hudson, Organist/Choirmaster of St. Michael’s Cathedral in Barbados. In New York City, he continued his studies with his father and Eugene Hancock, Associate Organist/Choirmaster at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. In September of 1966, Mr. Straker began his studies in organ and liturgical music at the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford with John Holtz, Organist/Choirmaster of Center Church, Hartford. He has held positions at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Brooklyn, NY, Grace Methodist Church in Plainville, Ct, and the Unitarian Church, Hartford. 

In February 1969, Mr. Straker accepted the position of Organist/Choirmaster at First Congregational Church in Bloomfield where he is currently Minister of Music. Mr. Straker also directed a choral group based at Trinity Church in Hartford and has played recitals in New York City and in the Greater Hartford area. For several years, he was the organist for Hartford High School graduations and from 1973-2000 Mr. Straker was employed by the University of Hartford. From 2002-2013, he served as a substitute teacher for the Hartford Public Schools. He is quite active as organist for weddings and funerals and is a recipient of the Collin Bennett-Marcus Garvey Community Award. Mr. Straker is a member of the Hartford Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

Dorine DeCarli
​Director of Christian Education​

Dorine joined First Congregational Church in 2007 after five years as the Christian Education Director of the Union Congregational Church in Rockville, CT. She received her Associates Degree in Christian Education from Hartford Seminary in 2000 and received her designation in the UCC in 2003.  Dorine worked as a part time teacher in the Hartford Public Schools as well as the Head Start program in Vernon.  She also served on the Drug and Alcohol Prevention Council in Vernon. Dorine is creative, artistic and loves gardening and children. "My goal is to nurture children and youth to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ."

Malachi Mouning
Administrative Assistant

Malachi joined First Congregational Church in 2019 after five years working for Manchester Early Learning Center in various capacities. He also has led programming for the Children's Defense Fund Freedom School site at Thirman L. Milner School in Hartford. He received his Associates Degree in General Studies from Manchester Community College in 2019. He loved his time as the Assistant Coach for the Granby Memorial High School swim team. He plans to pursue a Bachelors and Masters in Social Work in the very near future. "It is my passion to help others in any way that I can. I also desire to show the love of our Savior, Jesus Christ every day in all of my actions."

Shantel Bremmer
Child Development Center Director

Shantel holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Bachelor of Arts in Child Study.  She has worked in Early Childhood Education since 2006, most recently at the Bloomfield Early Learning Center. Shantel has extensive knowledge of teaching techniques and curriculum, her unfailingly positive attitude and willingness to help others in any way possible. She is a leader and guide to those she works with, is passionate about helping children and their teachers reach their full potential and is dedicated to creating supportive community.
