For years, members of our Church have prepared meals for Loaves and Fishes, a Hartford soup kitchen. For the last several years, members of our youth group the Pilgrim Fellowship have baked 120 pies for the Thanksgiving holiday. The proceeds from the pies enable the youth to purchase Christmas gifts for needy families in Bloomfield. The Department of Social and Youth Services provides the name of the families, the ages of the children and a brief wish list. As a group the Pilgrim Fellowship shops for the families, wraps each gift and gives them to Social Services to be given to the families.

Each fall, the Women’s Fellowship Committee sponsors the Autumn Craft Fair. This is a wonderful event that combines 30-40 professional crafters with church booths, including a teacup auction, bakery booth, gift basket silent auction booth, pony rides helium balloons, face panting, and homemade soups in the luncheon booth. It is more than the major fund-raiser for Women's Fellowship. It is a tremendous opportunity to bring the church membership together each year in a common purpose and to welcome the community into our Church, while showcasing our facilities.

The First Congregational Church Nursery School provides a safe atmosphere for pre-school children to explore, learn and grow with loving and knowledgeable teachers. The school is nationally accredited, and staff members belong to the National and Connecticut Associations for the Education of Young Children. Founded in 1960 at the request of parents who wanted to expand the Sunday School curriculum to a weekday class, the school has grown into a full Early Childhood Center, responding to the needs of children of all faiths. The school is highly respected within Bloomfield and the surrounding towns and is associated with many community projects.
