Our beautiful colonial church building stands in the center of town opposite the green and its white steeple can be seen throughout the community’s landscape. The Church’s simple Sanctuary provides a feeling of peace and reverence. The Church has a rich history that goes back to the beginning of the town. Our forefathers were the town founders and the organizers of the town and schools. Many of our members still actively participate in town government. |
About Us |
The First Congregational Church In Bloomfield |
Like other diverse communities, Bloomfield faces challenges related to race, culture, ethnicity and economic disparities. Our church is also ethnically, culturally, generationally and economically diverse. We work actively to embrace and enhance this diversity both to attract new members and to ensure that the Church plays a significant part in the town’s future. Our congregation accepts diversity of thought and theology and welcomes people who may not always agree or toe a single line but are willing to hear each other’s ideas and grow as a result. We are blessed with a wealth of God-given talent in our church, including musicians, artists and writers, and there is much caring and sharing among our congregation. Many members dedicate themselves to personal services such as visiting the homebound, participating in the Loaves and Fishes food program, providing receptions for funerals, filling Thanksgiving Baskets for town recipients and responding to a variety of community needs. Our many talented musicians sponsor and participate in quality musical programs such as our Sunday Afternoons at 4 Series for the Church and community. Our own Belles, Ballads and Buddies has performed several benefit concert. Covenant to Care, and the Bloomfield Volunteer Ambulance are two of the local charities that have received support from these concerts. Our Board of Christian Mission supports a wide variety of non-profit organizations, including Covenant to Care (that provides support for young unwed mothers statewide), eight shelters in the Hartford area, The Hartford Christian Activities Council, Trust House (a Hartford center for remedial education and job training) and the Hartford branch of Habitat for Humanity. Other contributions from the mission budget support the Heifer Project, the Village Poultry Project in Togo, the United Negro College Fund, Church World Service and the UCC’s wider mission. … more (Continued on page 3) |
