About us
The first official gathering of the Congregational Church took place on February 14, 1738, 275 years ago, in what was then known as the Wintonbury Parish. The Wintonbury Parish became the town of Bloomfield almost 100 years later in 1835 and our beautiful colonial church, with its white steeple that can be seen through out the community, was built in 1858.
While our congregation is 275 years old, our church building is over 150 and our faith is over 2000, our thinking is firmly rooted in the present. We have a strong commitment to extravagant hospitality, welcoming people of all ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, races, ages, abilities and economic status. Our congregation accepts diversity of thought and theology and welcomes people who may not always agree, but are willing to listen to one another’s ideas and grow as a result.
We are committed to caring for our local community, in which we have such a long history, as well as the larger world around us. First Congregational Church in Bloomfield is a member of the United Church of Christ
